WP to Honor Cirangle, Gagg, Hall McEvoy, Karas and Laudien

WAYNE, N.J. – Louis Cirangle '58 (men's basketball), Michael Gagg '88 (baseball), Meghan Hall McEvoy '09 (field hockey), Vojtech Karas '10 (men's swimming) and Cynthia Laudien Faiella '00 (women's soccer) will become the newest inductees into the William Paterson University Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame when they are enshrined on Sunday, Oct. 11. The event will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the University Commons Ballroom on campus, and the cost is $27 per person ($20 for WP students and children under 18). For more information, please contact the Alumni Association Office at 973.720.2175.

During an era that pre-dated the shot clock and three-pointer, Cirangle (1954-58) became the fourth player in Paterson State history to score 1,000 career points, and the first to do so during his junior year. His 1,528 career tallies were good enough for second place on the school's list at the time, and still rank seventh in Pioneer history.

Gagg (1985-88) was one of the Pioneers' all-time greats on the mound, posting a 19-2 record, 3.69 earned-run average and 132 strikeouts to finish his career second in winning percentage (.905, currently third at WP), third in both appearances (44, currently tied for ninth) and victories (currently seventh), and fourth in innings pitched (190.2, currently 10th). An all-region selection in 1987 as well as a two-time first-team all-New Jersey Athletic Conference pick (1985, 1987), he was the winning pitcher in the 1985 NCAA Regional Tournament championship game, finishing the season with a 7-1 record and 2.17 ERA (second at the time, currently ninth). As a junior in 1987, he went 8-0 with a 4.03 ERA to tie for fourth on the Pioneers' single-season wins list (currently seventh). During his time at William Paterson, the Pioneers won three NJAC titles (1986-88) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament all four years, including Regional titles and World Series bids in both 1985 and 1988.

As a senior, Hall McEvoy (2005-08) was selected to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America First Team, Womensfieldhockey.com All-America Second Team, NFHCA All-Region First Team, All-NJAC First Team and All-ECAC Second Team, was named the NJAC Attack Player of the Year and played in the NFHCA National Senior All-Star Game. In 74 career games, she posted 42 goals and 32 assists for 116 points to rank first in assists and third in both goals and points on the WP charts. Also a first-team all-region and all-NJAC pick in 2007, she garnered second-team all-region and first-team all-conference laurels as a sophomore in 2006. Her 14 assists and 48 points during the 2008 campaign still stand as Pioneer single-season records.

Karas (2006-10) broke six school records during his time in Wayne, establishing new top times in the 50 freestyle (20.69), 100 backstroke (52.91), 200 individual medley (2:00.54), 200 freestyle relay (1:26.78), 200 medley relay (1:37.84) and 400 medley relay (3:37.32). Third all time in points scored (547.25), he placed 28th in the 50 free at the 2010 NCAA Championships, and was named the winner of the 2010 Metropolitan Conference Dick Krempecki Outstanding Senior Award. Karas also was a three-time all-NJAC honoree (2009 first team/50 free, 2009 second team/200 free, 2010 first team/50 free), and led the team in points during each of his final three seasons. He also excelled in the classroom, garnering a spot on the 2010 College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Academic All-America Honorable Mention.

Laudien Faiella (1996-99) was the first Pioneer women's soccer all-American, earning a spot on the 1998 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America First Team as well as the NSCAA All-Region and All-NJAC First Teams. In 70 career matches, she posted 24 goals, 13 assists, 61 points and seven game-winning goals to rank third in goals (currently eighth), tied for third in points (currently tied for eighth), tied for fourth in game winners (currently tied for sixth) and fifth in assists at WP. Also a member of the 1999 NSCAA All-Region Third Team and All-NJAC First Team, as well as the 1996 and 1997 All-NJAC Second Teams, she helped lead the Pioneers to the 1997 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen, the 1998 NCAA Tournament first round and the 1998 NJAC title.

Founded in 1978, the William Paterson University Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame honors student-athletes, coaches and support persons who have made outstanding contributions to Pioneer athletics. In all, 136 individuals and three teams have already been enshrined in the Hall of Fame, and are honored with plaques that are displayed in the lobby of the Recreation Center on campus.

In order to be considered for induction into the Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame, former student-athletes must be at least five years removed from competition at William Paterson. Teams become eligible for induction five years after the completion of that season.
