SUMTER, S.C. – William Paterson junior
Brittany LaBruna (Bloomingdale, N.J./Continental Academy) will compete for a national title when she travels to Sumter, S.C., for the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships Oct. 15-18 at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
She will begin play in the eight-player tournament Thursday, Oct. 15, at 10:30 a.m. against second-seeded Ariana Iranpour of the University of Chicago. The second match will take place Friday, Oct. 16, at 8:30 a.m. against an opponent to be determined. For complete information, visit

She punched her ticket to the National Small College Championships by winning the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional title Sept. 26-28 in Geneva, N.Y. Trailing 4-1 in the third set, the top-seeded LaBruna rallied to defeat seventh-seeded Mako Tanaka from Geneseo, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, in the championship match.
LaBruna is 18-0 in singles action this fall, including a 9-0 mark at first singles during dual-meet action. She took home the NJAIAW Tournament Flight A singles title Oct. 11-12 at Drew University, and has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week during each of the last five weeks (Sept. 15, Sept. 22, Sept. 29, Oct. 6, Oct. 13).
LaBruna won the 2013 USTA/ITA Northeast Regional title as a freshman, but elected to not participate in the national tournament. A 2013 ITA all-American as well as the 2013 and 2014 NJAC Player of the Year and 2013 NJAC Rookie of the Year, she owns a career singles record of 51-2.
