Box Score WAYNE, N.J. – Senior Krysti Maronski's carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning as third-seeded Rowan (31-10, 14-4 NJAC) defeated sixth-seeded Rutgers-Camden (18-15-1, 9-9 NJAC), 1-0, in Game 5 of the double-elimination New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Softball Tournament May 2.
The Profs advance to play William Paterson in Game 8 on Saturday, May 3, at 12:00 pm. Rutgers-Camden will play Saturday at 10:00 a.m. against the loser of the matchup between second-seeded Montclair State and fourth-seeded Kean.
After three innings of no-hit ball by both teams, Rowan got on the board during the top of the fourth. Three straight singles from senior infielder/outfielder Jennifer Arcella, sophomore designated player Ashley DeYoung and junior infielder Alysa Romero plated a run and gave Rowan a 1-0 lead.
With one out in the seventh, junior shortstop Krystine Rice lined a single that the Prof right fielder could not quite reach in time, tailing away from and hitting off her glove for the Scarlet Raptors' first hit of the game. Rutgers-Camden moved the tying run to second after sophomore third baseman Katie Larson walked, but Maronski induced a pop out to the shortstop to end the game.
Five different players collected hits for Rowan. Maronski (18-5) gave up just one hit and walked two while striking out 12 batters in the complete-game effort.
Rice picked up Rutgers-Camden's only hit, and senior catcher Tabby Dick and sophomore third baseman Katie Larson each drew a walk. Sophomore Brittany Scott (16-13) allowed one run on five hits and struck out one in 7.0 innings.
