WAYNE, N.J. - Sophomore Kelsey Rella (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) swept in a pass at the post in the 80th minute to lift William Paterson (1-0) to a 1-0 overtime victory against visiting FDU-Florham (0-1) in field hockey action Sept. 1.
After being outshot 12-5 during regulation, the Pioneers began to get forward during the 7v7 extra time, and converted on their best chance of the contest thanks to a penalty corner.

WAYNE, N.J. - William Paterson (1-0) cruised to an 8-1 victory over visiting John Jay (0-1) Sept. 1 to open its 2010 tennis season.
Freshman Mary Skretkowicz (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at second singles, while senior Delnaz Shalforoosh (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at third singles.

WAYNE, N.J. – Despite a late rally, the William Paterson men’s soccer team (0-1) dropped its season opener to visiting Scranton (1-0), 3-2, at Pioneer Soccer Park Sept. 1.
The Pioneers owned the early advantage as freshman Mike Lowe (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) struck less than four minutes into his collegiate debut, sliding to finish a Steve DeMatteo (Piscataway, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) flicked header.

Following the graduation of three-time first-team all-league selection and 2009 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Year Kelly Helfrich, the William Paterson volleyball program will be looking for its nine returning letterwinners and four newcomers to elevate their games this fall. “Everyone has worked very hard to improve,” said 32nd-year head coach Sandy Ferrarella. “Our veterans knew that Kelly would be gone this year, and so they knew that they would all have to work together to pick up the slack. Because of that, we may actually be stronger this year all the way around.”
