William Paterson returned 20 letterwinners and five starters from the 2009 squad that compiled a 24-17 overall record and a 12-6 mark in league play, including three wins against ranked conference opponents. The Pioneers twice staved off elimination from last year’s NJAC Tournament, and that experience of postseason success should serve William Paterson well as it attempts to go one step further and earn a berth in this spring’s NCAA Tournament.

2010 Softball Season Outlook

William Paterson came tantalizingly close to the program’s third bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Finals a year ago, as the Pioneers were stymied in the NCAA Mahwah Regional final by the eventual national champions. Compiling a 35-9 overall record while winning the program’s fourth New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament title, the Pioneers reclaimed their place as one of the region’s most successful teams.

Baseball Rolls Past Centenary, 12-3

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (2-1-1) banged out 16 hits en route to a 12-3 victory against Centenary (2-4) March 10 at Pioneer Baseball Park.

The Pioneer bats got off to an early start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first run was driven in by senior Andrue Laguerre (Jersey City, N.J./St. Benedict’s Prep), who scored classmate Miguel Lugo (Jersey City, N.J./St. Mary’s) with a single to center field.

Baseball Falls to FDU-Florham, 13-8

WAYNE, N.J. – A seven-run fifth inning helped FDU-Florham (2-0) earn a 13-8 baseball victory at William Paterson (1-1-1) March 9. Senior Mike Guadango (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) started things off for the Pioneers with a first-inning solo home run down the left-field line, and William Paterson tacked on an unearned score in the second when sophomore Rob Somers (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) singled to the pitcher and then crossed the plate after a throwing error by the Devil third baseman.

Baseball to Host FDU-Florham Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.

WAYNE, N.J. -- William Paterson will host FDU-Florham for a single baseball game Tuesday, March 9, at 3:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Monday, March 8.

WP Athletics March 8 Weekly Release

WP Athletics Weekly Release -- March 8 (PDF)

Monday Baseball vs. FDU-Florham Postponed

WAYNE, N.J. -- The William Paterson home baseball game against FDU-Florham scheduled for Monday, March 8, has been postponed.
