Ellis Named NJHoops.com Player of the Month

Senior Guard Earns Division III Award for January

Senior Joseph Ellis was named the NJHoops.com Division III Player of the Month for January after averaging 16.4 points per game.
WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson senior Joseph Ellis (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) was named the NJHoops.com Division III January Player of the Month, the group announced Feb. 3.

Ellis, a 6-1 guard, averaged a team-best 16.4 points per game as the Pioneers were a perfect 9-0 during the month, adding 3.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals per contest. He was selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and ECAC Metro Player of the Week Jan. 18 after he averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as the Pioneers extended their win streak to 13 games with a pair of victories against Rutgers-Newark (61-57, Jan. 13) and Richard Stockton (63-57, Jan. 16).

William Paterson, ranked 13th in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, is 21-1 overall and 10-0 in league play this season. The Pioneers have won a school-record 19 straight games, and have already wrapped up the overall top seed and a first-round bye for the upcoming NJAC Tournament. WP has three regular-season games remaining, visiting Rutgers-Newark Feb. 10 (8:00 p.m.) and hosting Montclair State Feb. 13 (3:00 p.m.) and New Jersey City Feb. 17 (8:00 p.m.), before hosting a conference tournament semifinal game Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7:00 p.m.

Nick Leon of Saint Peter's was named the NJHoops.com Division I Player of the Month. Devon Young (Felician) earned the Division II award, Kevin Davis (Atlantic Cape CC) was the Junior College winner, Noel Allen (North Bergen H.S.) was acknowledged for North Jersey High Schools, and Vince Walls (Camden H.S.) was honored from South Jersey.
